Most visitors need a visa to enter Tanzania. An e-Visa can typically be applied for online before travel, or a visa may be available on arrival for eligible nationalities. Requirements change, so always confirm current rules with the official Tanzania Immigration Department or your nearest Tanzanian embassy before you travel.
Your passport should generally be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date and have blank pages available for entry stamps. Check specific requirements for your nationality before booking flights.
We strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance covering medical evacuation, trip cancellation and high-altitude trekking (if you plan to climb Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru).
The Tanzanian Shilling (TZS) is the local currency. US Dollars are widely accepted for tours, park fees and hotels; carry newer, undamaged notes. Card payment and ATMs are available in major towns.
Local SIM cards are inexpensive and available at the airport or in towns like Moshi and Arusha, offering good data coverage in most tourist areas.

Tanzania has a warm tropical climate at lower elevations and cold conditions at altitude on Kilimanjaro and Meru. June–July (AFCON dates) falls in the dry season, generally good for travel, safari and trekking.
